“죽고 싶으면 내 눈에 안 보이는 데서 죽어...” 냉철하고 이성적인 교도관 서준. 그러나 죽은 아내를 잊지 못하는 그의 일상은 한없이 적막하다. 어느 날, 교도소에 살인 혐의을 받은 ‘은하’가 들어온다. 일하던 식당 사장을 협박하고 살인까지 하게 된 사건의 피의자. 다른 수감자들과 몸싸움을 벌이던 은하의 난동을 진압하는 과정에서 유산을 하게 되고, 서준은 그녀에게 관심을 갖게 된다. 중국으로 탈출한 탈북자 부모 사이에서 태어난 은하. 교통사고로 부모를 잃고 중국과 동남아를 떠돌다 한국으로 들어왔지만 국적취득을 실패하고 여기저기 떠돌다 살인혐의를 받은 여자. 삶에 아무런 의지가 없는 은하는 검사 앞에서도 국선 변호사가 와도 아무 말도 하지 않는다. 은하를 지켜보던 서준은 그녀의 깊은 슬픔에 동요하기 시작하고, 마침내 서로의 감정을 확인한 두 사람. 두 사람을 지켜보는 주변은 술렁이기 시작하고 그녀의 현실은 더욱 참담해지는데...
