星历4088年，人们引起了星系间的危机，失去了大多数的惑星。残存于星间殖民地的人类，将希望寄托在仅存唯一的惑星"ZION"上，但是ZION却被不明的外星生物"牺牲者"(威克提姆 Whigtom）所威胁，人们只好使用巨大的机械人型兵器"女神"(英格莉德 A·H·W）来对抗威克提姆。但是女神的驾驶员必须要拥有超越常人的特殊能力(EX)，工作十分辛苦，任期又十分短暂，所以便有了女神的驾驶员训练中心"G.O.A"的诞生，每一期的训练时间为三年。在三年的学习期间内，学员们（即女神候补生）必须在宇宙船内生活，接受严格的训练，因此半途而废者不在少数。而且并非三年的在学期间一结束就可以成女神的驾驶员，只有缺额出现（现任驾驶者死亡或因EX低下而引退）或者是候补生的战斗能力超越现任驾驶员，才可以晋升为正式驾驶员。然后时间到了星历5030年…… 主角杰洛·苑名(ZERO ENNA)出身于边境殖民地，幼时丧父、家里只有母亲一人。个性明朗，积极的不能再积极（讲明白点就是完全行动派，做事不经大脑、不顾后果，横冲直撞的呆子），即使消沉也会恢复的很快。拥有毫无根据的信心，同时也是个乐天派。有点迟钝、并用爱面子来掩饰他的胆小，耿直的性格有时也会让人觉得反感。不擅于用头脑来理解，但是用身体来理解的话比其他人快上一倍，身为驾驶员的才能还算是个钻石的粗糙原石状态，也还无法完全驾驭EX。故事就在杰洛为了成为女神驾驶员而作为女神候补生进入G.O.A.学习的情况下展开……
