Sebastian ‚Baaba‘ Bouchard (Omar Sy) ist nicht gerade der Polizist, wie er im Buche steht. Im Pariser Arbeiterviertel Belleville hat nicht er, sondern seine Mutter das sagen. Als Königin von Belleville herrscht sie über das Viertel — und macht ihrem Sohn einen einfachen Job. Kein Wunder, dass Baaba jede Möglichkeit, sich versetzen zu lassen, in den Wind bläst. Auch wenn er damit seiner Karriere schadet. Seine Freundin kann den Stillstand bald nicht mehr ertragen. Alles ändert sich, als eines Tages Baabas alter Jugendfreund Roland zu Besuch kommt. Roland arbeitet inzwischen als Cop in Miami und will Baaba vor einem anstehenden Drogengeschäft warnen, wird von der Gang jedoch vorher erschossen. Um seinen Freund zu rächen, kommt Babaa endlich aus dem Trott und fliegt nach Florida. Dort will er mit dem Cop Ricardo (Luis Guzmán) zusammenarbeiten, um den Gangstern das Handwerk zu legen. Nur leider hat Ricardo überhaupt keinen Nerv für Babaas eigenwillige Methoden.
