Bei der Verhaftung des psychopathischen Verbrechers Blake wird der Streifencop Nick Styles von einem Hobbyfilmer auf Video festgehalten und kommt so in die Nachrichten. Während Blake hinter Gitter marschiert, gelingt Styles eine kometenhafte Karriere. Blake glückt die Flucht. Nach allen Regeln der Kunst beginnt er, Styles in der Öffentlichkeit zu diskreditieren. Er dichtet ihm Seitensprünge und Geschlechtskrankheiten an, bringt ihn in Zusammenhang mit Korruption und Drogenhandel und macht ihn schließlich selbst drogenabhängig. Beinahe am Boden zerstört kann sich Styles nur noch auf seine alten Freunde von der Straße verlassen. Mit ihrer Hilfe rechnet er in einem tödlichen Showdown mit Blake ab.
