Az Ige című dán filmdráma egy gazdag paraszt életét meséli el. Borgen sokat bánkódik családja rendezetlen és boldogtalan helyzetén: felesége meghalt, fia, Johannes Isten fiának képzeli magát, menye pedig még nem szült gyermeket. Inger, legidősebb gyermekének felesége végül mégis megfogan, ám a gyermek halva születik, s az asszony maga is elhalálozik a szülés közben.
