La sedicenne Tessa è afflitta da una grave forma di leucemia. Sapendo di avere a disposizione solo qualche mese di vita e con tutta la rabbia del caso, la ragazza decide di stilare una lista di cose da fare prima di morire, cose che la facciano sentire viva e le diano l'impressione di avere avuto una vita completa. In questa lista la prima cosa è fare sesso. Poi provare qualche droga, passare un giorno a fare shopping senza limiti, comprandosi tutto quello che si vuole, viaggiare, rivedere i genitori separati di nuovo insieme. A condividere con lei questi mesi e questi desideri c'è Zoey, un'amica sbandata che Tessa adora perché è l'unica che non la tratta da malata. Inizia così la corsa di Tessa contro il tempo, fra sesso, discoteche, droghe, piccoli furti fino al fatale incontro con Adam e con l'amore che strapperà Tessa da ogni paura.
